Just Another.....Knit!

The Wings of a Moth.... I love the fact that my blocking board distorts the color....

....It truly is just plain black. The shawl is for Minjeong...knit on size 3 needles...which means the shawl is a lot smaller than the original pattern. The finished measurement is 62" X 32". Hopefully, it will be okay. It really is an easy, quick knit. If it is too small, I can always knit it again. : ) If I knew what the yarn was....I would definitely buy it again.

Bigger is Better?

Three-Cornered Shawl in Clover Pattern
"Victorian Lace Today"

Unblocked, the shawl measured 72" X 34"....in a very relaxed state...no pulling or stretching.

Blocked - 82" X 50"....49" if I don't count the edging....

I didn't stretch it as much as I could have....love the width...am a little concerned about the length. Will it end at my knees?

I used 2.5 balls of Jaggerspun Zephyr in the copper colorway and size 5 needles. This was an extremely easy pattern aside from a few errors in Chart E. The only difficult part was casting on 624 stitches.

Would I knit it again? Absolutely!

Quick and Easy.....

Just not quick enough....I had hoped to finish the shawl in time to wear to the spinning class on Saturday....not going to happen...but...it is a very enjoyable, easy knit.

Do the Math.....

On Friday, I decided my shawl was looking a little small. (The pattern calls for 2200 yards and so far…I have only used one ball of Zephyr. This is definitely a red flag!) I didn’t swatch…I know I like Jaggerspun Zephyr on size 5’s….Anyway…I googled “Three Cornered Shawl” and found 2 bloggers who had finished it. Both mentioned how large it is.

I measured the one side of the triangle…45” unblocked. I asked my son how to figure out the sides of a triangle when you only know one dimension. He couldn’t remember the formula. So again, I googled it…and I did the math! According to my calculations, the top of the shawl, unblocked, will be 78”. Since I knit tight…it won’t grow by one-third when I block it. I like it! Is it correct? Not a clue!

I’ll be knitting like crazy to end the suspense ; )

Bugged by a Bee........

I spent the better part of Sunday knitting Bee Fields. My yarn is a little "energized/excited" but I'm happy with it! The little winglets on the sides are various sizes due to the various sizes in the yarn but I love it anyway!

After I accomplish my Monday morning chores and plan an easy dinner....I will be knitting. Is it bad that when I plan my day I mentally pencil in knitting?????

Bee Season....

Slight change in plans....the baby blanket and the baby sweater can wait. It doesn't get really cold in Ohio until November anyway....plenty of time : )

A Magic that Continues....

Clue #4 - 150 rows
We were instructed to put a lifeline in after knitting row 287....of course, I snagged a stitch while threading in my lifeline...hopefully, it isn't for something majorly important. Don't have a clue!

Sock knitting continues...the first Bliss problem will hopefully be figured out sometime today or tomorrow. I see so many problems with this pattern!

Silk 'n Sabotage....

After some research - (http://www.woolworks.org/fibers.html)

"Silk is the fiber produced by silk moths. Silk knitting yarn is made from damaged silk cocoons and broken fibers. 'Raw' silk still has the original moth secretions in it. 'Tussah,' silk obtained from wild moths is brown. The food fed to domesticated moths determines their silk's natural color; this can white, green or yellow.

Silk retains heat, absorbs moisture, pills less than wool, is very strong and very stable when knit, neither shrinking or stretching."

Now I know....it wasn't me or my gauge...

The sheen, drape and stitch definition is magnificent. Overall, I am very pleased with how it turned out...

The White Moth.....

All the necessary tools are at hand....

Off the needles.....

Close up of the pattern.....

Stretched as far as I could.....

Louet 12/2 Silk Yarn: Lovely
Pattern: Wing of the Moth Shawl - Beautiful
Needle Size: 4 - Oops - Should have Used Size 6
Finished Measurement: 64" X 31" instead of 84" X 42"

The pattern called for 900-1000 yards of fingering weight yarn...I used 940 yards of 12/2 silk...I guess I should have checked the weight before, huh?

I did do a swatch....really! I liked the fabric on size 4...so went with it. It is definitely not as large as I would like...but....the recipient should still be able to wear it...

The pattern is beautiful and I would definitely knit it again....and just happen to have 2 more cones of Louet 12/2 silk....just not right now.

The Goat.....

The only clues given by the designer was that black, white or gray yarn would be a suitable yarn color for the theme of the stole - and a bride would not appreciate it.

Any ideas?

Pan's Labyrinth....is my guess for the theme of the Mystery Stole 3.....

Does anyone else see a goat in the lower mid-section of the stole? Horns and all? Goat - Pan - Pan's Labyrinth.

A Different Light.....

The color is far from accurate...but at least you can see the design and the silver-lined beads.

Anxiously awaiting Clue #2!

Two.....

Since I can't decide which yarn I like better, I will be knitting two Mystery Stoles!

The designer commented that pink would not be an appropriate color choice for the theme....but since it is unknown as of yet, I will knit them both simultaneously!

Needles and Pins.....

I had decided to knit the shawl on size 5 needles - I knit the pink shawl on size 5's and loved the fabric...but...I decided to swatch on 4's and play with the beads....instead of soaking the swatch, I briefly ran it under water...and stretched it like crazy. Needless to say, I don't care for this swatch...will stick with the 5's....
